Thunder win in a persistence game
The Briercrest Clippers and the Concordia Thunder played their rematch game on Saturday afternoon, the result was a 0-1 win for the Thunder.
Before the puck drop both teams knew how crucial this game was for either side, both of these teams are currently battling for the last playoff spot and only being a single point away from each other was crucial to capture a win from both the Clippers or the Thunder.
Off the puck drop the Thunder started off with a push despite finding penalties, the Thunder being all over Briercrest, was hammering away at the Clipper defense. Eventually this led to the Thunders only goal of the night from #27 Adam Wheeldon. After this goal the Clippers built some momentum into the end of the period.
Starting off the 2ndperiod was fairly balanced, both teams played a hard competitive period seeking to gain a goal from each end; one being the insurance goal and the other being the tying one. At the end of the period no one got anything past the goalies at this period of the game, the score at the end of the period at 0-1.
The final period of play was scrappy, infested with penalties and gritty hockey, definitely not helping each teams case to win the game. Coming to the last minutes of play where everything got tense from both teams and Briercrest pulled their goalie. With their goalie pulled, Briercrest tried to capitalize on the extra man advantage, but could find a break. The final score remained at 1-0 for the Thunder to put them 3 points ahead of the Clippers in the standings.
Player of the game for the Clippers was #10 Trey Doell with a shutdown game playing solid in the defensive side of things
